It's a problem. I go to New York and I walk down the street and nothing. No inspiration, no photographs. As soon as I step foot on the mother land I start snapping away. I need to get over this mental block. In any case, here are some photos.

Pratt Open Studios

Unfortunately I haven't been getting much (any) commercial work here in New York, but I have still been shooting! As a matter of fact tomorrow evening, from 5-9, I, along with the rest of the Pratt graduate program, will be showing my work on campus. If you live in New York you should come check it out. I'm listening to Katy Perry while Facebook stalking my friends and playing Halo all at the same time. I must have a paper due tomorrow. In fact I do, it's on Stephen Shore. If you're not familiar with his photography you should click the link and be enlightened. The paper is for my Critical History of Photography class. Speaking of the history of photography, do you like Mathew Brady? I do. For my digital class I tried to recreate one of his photographs with my friend Austin as the nineteenth century diplomat. Enjoy.

Night Life

My "night life" in New York has primarily consisted of meeting up with my friends at bars around Williamsburg and the Lower East Side. I'm normally not a street style photographer, but recently I've had to shoot an exorbitant about of photos for my grad school classes so I've been taking my camera with me everywhere. As a result I've been able to document some of my favorite bars.

Jazz Age Lawn Party at Governor's Island

New York has been absolutely wonderful so far. One of the most fun and exciting things that I've gotten to do was to attend the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor's Island this past Saturday. The music, the clothes, the dancing, all amazing. Hopefully the photos will give you an idea:

The band: Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra

They play all around New York, including at Apotheke on Tuesday nights.

Once again, the clothing was just amazing.

And so was the dancing.

And the company wasn't too bad either.

Engagements and the Milky Way

Just before leaving Nashville for good I had the opportunity to take some engagement photos for two of my closest friends, Nathan and Becca. Most of my equipment was already in New York, so the shoot is a bit bare bones, but we had a great time and got some nice photos.

Now I'm in Texas, back on the ranch again. It's a great time of year to see the milky way, and last night was especially clear. I was a able to get a couple nice shots from the front yard.

I'm moving to New York on Friday. I'll be sure to take some photos for you.

The Haunted Asylum

Well maybe not haunted, but certainly abandoned. The other night a group of us were sitting around doing nothing and looking for a little adventure when my good friend Connor (see below) suggested we take a few flashlights and scare the bejeesus out of ourselves by sneaking into an old building that was once used as a hospital for the mentally ill. It turned out to be more of a house than a hospital, but with two pitch black basements filled with old clothes peeling walls and children's toys it was sufficient in its creepiness. Well, I loved the place so I decided to take a few people back the next day to snap a couple photos. Here is the result. For some reason my focus is slightly off on many of these photos, I'm not completely sure why but I think it's a result of shooting at such a low aperture and my unsteady hands.

It's spring break at Belmont so I decided to drive over to KC, MO with my good buddy Mark to see his hometown and catch a couple games of bike polo before heading home to Houston for the rest of the break. I've also found that I enjoy shooting backstage more than the actual performances themselves. Senior Recitals

One of the greatest aspects of attending a music school is getting to shoot so many of my talented friends. Hopefully they'll all become mega-famous and I can ride into wealth and fortune on their coattails. Kidding, of course. I mean, unless it happens, then I'm serious. Anyway, around this time of year all of the senior recitals begin taking place, I've been given the opportunity to work on a few different posters for friends' recitals. Here are a couple of my favorite poster/images.

SNOW DAY!!!

Nashville has received quite a bit of snow recently, 6-10 inches to be exact. Because we hardly see this much snow in these parts, it sort of felt like the entire city was on vacation for a few days; people were staying off the roads, there were throngs of folks at the park sledding and such, and everyone was just having a great time and enjoying their community. Well, apparently snow also brings photographers together as my good photo friends Andrew and Jenilee and I got together a few times to take advantage of the rare scenery. (My new profile photo was taken by Jenilee, thanks Jenilee!)

Anny Knight

Houston is a big place. I was reminded of that in two ways recently. First, I was contacted by Anny, a Belmont Junior who had heard of my work and lives in Houston. There are a lot of us Belmontians in Houston. Second, I had to get up at 8:30am so that I could drive an hour across this huge city to be in Spring by 10. In any case, Anny and her sisters and I had a lot of fun on this Christmas Eve portrait session. Enjoy.

So I'm back home in Sugar Land for Christmas, and it's a bit boring. No offense Sugar Land, it's not you... it's me. In any case, I've been spending most of my days entertaining my stepbrother Wyatt. The past few nights, I've been able to go out and take some photos with a few friends.

These following photos are from my old house, my favorite house. This is the house that I spent my most formative years in, middle and high school. After I moved to Nashville my mom and step-dad sold it and moved up to Austin. It's been abandoned ever since. I present to you, my walk down memory lane (hopefully there will be more to come, I'm going to try and get inside tonight).

Thanksgiving

Well it's been about a year since I started this blog, my first post down there at the bottom is from Thanksgiving last year. Well it's Thanksgiving again, no senior portraits this year though, I'm stuck at the ranch. It's for the better though, I'm still working on my senior thesis exhibition which is based around the town that my parents' ranch is in, Paige, TX, and being at the ranch gives me a chance to get a few more shots. Here's what I got tonight, hopefully I'll be getting some more tomorrow during the day.

I haven't been updating, primarily because only two people read this (thanks Jenilee and Drew!). Anyway, here's a quick run though of what you've missed.

-Blvd, thanks to the efforts of the aforementioned Jenilee, has blown up, we've had at least three shoots a week for most of the semester. Here are a few of my favorites:

- I'm starting a new series of photographs based around my friends' houses in Nashville. This is a test shot from the first shoot:

Paige, TX

Every time I go to my parent's ranch in Paige, Texas I get work done. I think it's just the lack of distractions and relief from the hustle bustle of college and the city. Anyway, I was there recently and my mom and I tried to take a nice photo with the dogs for our family Christmas card. We never got the card but I got this photo of my mom and although it's not great, I really like it.

Also, as always, I took some photos of my beloved bison.

Senior Portraits

Thanksgiving break means going home & going home means senior portraits. This trip I shot two of my friends from high school, Amelia and Kat. I realized Wednesday while shooting Amelia outside just before sunset that I've been babied to death by my studio, I haven't dealt with the sun as a light source in a while. I've been doing so much soft lighting and backlighting in the studio it took me a while to get used to the harsh and contrasty light from the sun. After a while I started to use it to my advantage again, but I'm still not overly pleased with the results.
